DAMBUK, Mar 21: In an act towards the protection and preservation of wildlife, Dambuk MLA Gum Tayeng rescued and released a soft-shelled turtle back into its natural habitat at the Dibang River on Wednesday.
Reportedly, the soft shelled turtle, weighing around 2.5-3kg was captured alive by some children using local-made harpoons at Bomjir.
The MLA, who was visiting Dambuk for an official event, spotted the children carrying the live turtle and called out to them and rescued the animal after paying some amount of cash.
The MLA, who advocates for protection and preservation of wildlife in the area, strongly appealed to the locals, especially youths of the area not to kill wildlife. She also advised the children not to repeat such things in future.
