‘Conduct regular ILP checking: GSU

ITANAGAR, Mar 23: The Galo Students’ Union (GSU) has urged the Lower Siang deputy commissioner to direct the authorities concerned to regularly conduct inner line permit (ILP) checking, especially of migrant workers engaged in highway construction work in the district.
In a representation it submitted to the DC on 19 March, the union claimed that its team had earlier found out that almost 90 percent of the highway workers did not have inner line permits. It also informed that minors were also found engaged in road construction work.
‘The workers are brought to the district by a private construction company. Most of the local businessmen practice such illegal act when they need more manpower. Some of the miscreants also sneak into the territory through the police post. Due to this our state government faces huge losses in revenue. It also poses a security threat,’ the union said.
It has further demanded that the authorities stop the construction work within 24 hours till strict checking of ILP is implemented in the area.
