BRSDO demands installation of early warning system

BANA, Mar 23: The Bana-Richukrong Social and Development Organisation (BRSDO) has appealed to the East Kameng district administration to take steps for early installation of early flood warning system for the Tenga and Bichom dams to avert any untoward incident in downstream Bana area.
The organization said the NEEPCO should install the system at two places, covering the vulnerable 9 km stretch of the Bana area, before the waters from the reservoir are released.
During a meeting at Yangsey (Bana) on 20 March, the BRSDO also discussed various issues, including the rumours of drying up of the Bichom river due to diversion of water for the Kameng Hydro-Electric Project (600 mw).
It also prohibited hunting of any kind of animal, including amphibians, birds, mammals, reptiles and their eggs, and fishing using explosives, harmful chemicals, electric, traps, illegal angling, diverting water (locally known as Swbho), etc.
