HAWAI, Mar 23: Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Mamata Riba has asked the authority of the Kalikho Pul memorial district hospital here to ensure proper management and disposal of biomedical wastes.
Riba on Thursday took stock of various levels of the district’s biomedical waste disposal system in a meeting of the District Advisory Committee.
She asked the medical officers in-charge of various health facilities in the district to create awareness on biomedical waste management among the healthcare personnel.
Executive Engineer (Elect) J Gibi assured his full cooperation to medical institutions in managing biomedical wastes, while Senior Medical Officer Dr S Tayang urged the paramedical staff to develop the habit of waste segregation among the patients and the public.
DRCHO Dr S Tamut highlighted the salient feature of the Bio Medical Waste Management Rules 2016, and Dr MJ Kalita highlighted the importance of having a sound waste management system in the medical institution to qualify for Kaayakalp standards.
Medical Officer Dr C Kamhua of the Walong PHC run by the Karuna Trust informed how the PHC, despite being located in an interior area, has been able to manage biomedical waste through its on-site disposal system.
