Journey to Kayakalp

Dear Editor,
Community Health Centre Kimin ‘MERA AASPATAL’ was established in the year 1960 and thus the building is at its ripe old age. I remember being treated for dysentery which nearly took my life 30 years back…so out of sheer love a ballad:Journey to Kayakalp.
Year 2017 – wrinkles have taken over me, fading into oblivion, group of people started taking interest in me, spending time with me. Time is our most precious gift because we only have a set amount of it. We can make more money but we cannot make more time. One year in the making I stand as plum blossom…like a new eagle after going through a rigorous transformation.
Cleanliness not only prevents the spread of infection but also provides the patients and the visitors a positive experience. The old comparison between the Arabian Sea and the Dead Sea is still true. Arabian Sea is full of life because it takes in water but also gives it out. In contrast, nothing lives in the Dead Sea because, with no outflow, it has stagnated.
Apart from all the new and innovative things plus the cleanliness that has been showered upon me, this group of people are not the ones who already knowfar more than they are putting into practice. Serving is the opposite of our natural inclination. Most of the time we’re more interested in ‘Serve Us’ than service. We say, ‘I am looking for an Aaspatal that meets the criteria of cleanliness”, not ‘I am looking for a place to serve and be a blessing’. This group of people act on what they know and practice what they claim to believe.
When I was being renovated especially some faithful ones skipped all their duties of a mother/ wife/ daughter – in – law etc for days and nights altogether, KAYAKALP became their dream and all the other people involved in achieving the prestigious award became the wings of their flight.
Every great person is always being helped by somebody. The higher you go in life, the more dependent you will become on other people. Behind a capable person there are always other capable people. No one person alone can match the cooperative effort of the right team. Now, that I look around, I can see my sibling CHC’s walking back , worn out and tired. I tried to reach them…. Nevertheless there’s far more opportunity than ability. Life’s full of golden opportunities for doing what we’re called to do. Start with what you can do; don’t stop because of what you can’t do. We aaspatals are lucky to have Kayakalp and all the good and faithful people surrounding us.
This journey which ended with an award I believe was not given to beautify me but to change lives at the receiving end.
Yours,
AbsonTana
