ITANAGAR, Apr 29: The State Election Commission (SEC) has deferred the elections to the Itanagar and Pasighat municipalities, owing to the inability of the respective district administration to conduct the polls in view of the monsoon season.
The elections to the two municipalities had been scheduled for 29 May.
The SEC informed on Saturday that the MEOs of Pasighat and Itanagar have expressed their inability to conduct the polls because of heavy rains and floods causing disruption in surface communication and forcing the administrations to be engaged in dealing with natural disasters.
The state government had earlier requested the SEC to defer the elections during the season when chances of natural disasters such as landslides and floods occurring in the state are very high.
