CM seeks report on Aalo fire mishap

ITANAGAR, May 17: Expressing grief over Wednesday’s fire accident in Aalo, Chief Minister Pema Khandu has sought a detailed report on the incident, and on the damages caused, from the West Siang district administration, so that the state government may release relief as per the norms.
The CM also directed the administration to provide shelter and relief materials to those rendered homeless by the mishap.
According to preliminary reports, the fire, which broke out in New Market on Wednesday morning, ravaged an entire apartment, a few godowns, and several shops, affecting nearly 28 households. No casualty has been reported.
Expressing grave concern over repeated incidences of fire mishaps in the state, the chief minister appealed to the people to be vigilant.
“We as individuals are responsible for fire accidents. If we remain cautious and adhere to preventive measures, fire, which we use for our benefit, will never devour us instead. It is our responsibility towards our families and neighbours to realize the danger of a spark neglected by our own lack of attention,” he said in a statement on Thursday evening.
While assuring all support to the victims, Pema also called upon civil society organizations to lend a helping hand to the affected families. (CMO)
