Union seeks implementation of minimum wages

ITANAGAR, Jul 24: The All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) has urged the state government to implement the minimum labour wages as finalized by the state advisory board on minimum wages (SABMW).
It was one of the six points of a memorandum the union submitted to the chief minister on Tuesday.
Despite the SABMW finalizing the minimum wages for the labour force and submitting the representation to the government for final approval, the revised rates of wages have not been approved by the government, the union said.
“The market rates of various commodities had been rising sharply but the minimum wages of the labourers are yet to be enhanced by the government. Hence, the minimum wages of the work force as finalized by the state advisory board on minimum wages should be implemented with immediate effect,” it said.
Its other demands include immediate release of minimum wages; establishment of the state welfare board, the state social security board and the state labour court; cancellation of ST certificates of non-APSTs; and revival of the Arunachal Pradesh Employee State Insurance Society (LAB (W28/87) PT).
