PASIGHAT, Jul 28: The 7th district level Subroto Cup football tournament for East Siang got underway at the Jawaharlal Nehru College playground here on Saturday.
The opening match in the boys’ category was played between Mirku secondary school and Kendriya Vidyalaya. The match was won by Mirku secondary school by 1-0. The winning goal was scored by K Darin.
In the second match, in the girls’ category, IGJ HSS beat Gandhi SS 2-0.
Thirty-nine boys’ teams from various schools, both government and private, are taking part in the tournament. On the other hand, 19 girls’ teams are participating in the introductory tournament for that category.
Among others, East Siang SP Prashant Gautam and DDSE Jongge Yirang Padung attended the opening ceremony.
The SP advised the players to take the opportunity to show their talents, and asked them to display sportsman spirit. He also spoke about the importance of sports. (DIPRO)
