ROING, Jul 31: In a step towards drug eradication and to nip it in its roots, Lower Dibang Valley Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Sain formed an Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) on 28 July, and appealed to all to share information and work towards making the district free from the drug menace.
The ADS comprises Inspector Abraham Taying as nodal officer, with two 186 Bn CRPF-F-Coy personnel, two personnel from the 5th IRBN, and two from the civil police.
The ADS will take immediate and effective action on receipt of any information regarding drug peddlers or abusers, or any person trying to spoil the positive environment of the fight against drugs.
Sain has appealed to public leaders, NGOs, other organisations and the public to cooperate with the police and the district administration to make the society free from drugs.
“In order to achieve success in any matter for sure and certain, it is very important for the society and the police department to work together,” Sain said.
He informed that, with cooperation and help from the public and a couple of women bodies of the district, the police here have successfully apprehended 35 drug peddlers so far.
Sain said the department alone could not have been so successful in controlling the problem to this extent. “We still have a long way to go,” he said.
The SP informed that their next phase will be to work for de-addiction.
Earlier this month, the police department here set an example by taking strict action against two of its own constables when they received information regarding their involvement with drugs.
The information proved to be true, and as per reports, the constables are under suspension and in custody.
