HOLLONGI, Aug 9: Environment & Forests Minister Nabam Rebia advised the people of Hollongi to protect their forests, wildlife and water sources, while attending an event organized by the Upper Hollongi Village Welfare Committee (UHVWC) here on Thursday.
Appreciating the steps taken by the UHVWC in protecting forests and wildlife by putting a ban on hunting, fishing and illegal cutting activities, Rebia advised the authorities concerned and the residents to take strict action against people who damage the environment or indulge in any criminal activity.
Responding to a two-point memorandum submitted by the UHVWC, the minister assured to look into the supply of fresh drinking water in Upper Hollongi village, and the requirement of school building, teachers’ quarters and toilet for the government primary school in Upper Hollongi.
The minister also directed the Balijan ADC in-charge to issue land possession certificates to the villagers.
Rebia also gave away a red coat to Chera Kaha, who has been selected as the gaon burah of Upper Hollongi village. Rebia advised Kaha to respect the coat and work for the welfare of the people.
He directed Balijan ADC In-charge Nabam Tajik to provide the gaon burah certificate after formalities.
Later, Rebia visited the Upper Hollongi government primary school, which is in a dilapidated condition.
