ITANAGAR, Aug 9: The department of social justice, empowerment & tribal affairs (SJETA) has said it would look into the matter of the pre- and post-matric scholarships of the students who had applied through M/s Yarkum Enterprise before placing its findings before the government for consideration.
Speaking to this daily, SJETA Director Yumla Kaha said the department would verify the matter with the police first, and place the findings before the government for further action.
“The department or I am not competent to take such a huge decision. Since the funds come from the government, it is upon the government to take the final decision and necessary steps on whether the students should get the scholarship. We will place the matter before the government as soon as possible for necessary action,” Kaha said.
“Since a police investigation is also going on, I am also not authorized to assure anything on behalf of the department,” he added.
He said the department would first verify the exact number of students that applied under M/s Yarkum Enterprise, and collect enough data to place before the government for consideration.
Meanwhile, Consumer Right Organization – Arunachal Pradesh president Achu Bagang informed that the police have seized 19 money receipt booklets from M/s Yarkum Enterprises, and asked students to verify their receipts to the investigating officer at the Naharlagun police station by 20 August.
