Poppy cultivation banned

CHONGKHAM, Aug 17: The office of the extra assistant commissioner here in Namsai district has issued an order banning poppy (opium) cultivation within Chongkham administrative circle.
The ban has been put in place in view of the health hazards and increase in the crime rate caused by opium consumption, EAC Rani Perme stated in the order issued on 13 August.
The administration has said penalty would be imposed on anyone found guilty of cultivating poppy, under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act.
