Scholarships scam

SP urges students to verify names and report discrepancy before 3 Sept

ITANAGAR, Aug 26: The capital police are continuing the investigation into the case of cheating in the name of scholarship applications registered against M/s Yarkum Enterprises at the Naharlagun police station.
SP M Harsha Vardhan said the police have received a request from the social justice and empowerment & tribal affairs (SJETA) director to provide detailed information regarding the students who have been cheated, for necessary follow-up action at the directorate’s end.
Investigation Officer, SI Krishnendu Dev, has prepared a list of the names of the students who had applied to M/s Yarkum Enterprises for scholarship for the year 2017-18, and the list is displayed at the Naharlagun police station.
“The list was prepared as per the original money receipts produced by the students and counterfoils of money receipts of M/s Yarkum Enterprises, seized by the IO of the case during the course of investigation. The two accused, Hillang Nima and Choki Raja, have also been arrested,” the SP informed.
He appealed to the students to verify their names at the Naharlagun police station and bring any discrepancy to the notice of the IO on or before 3 September, 2018.
“Re-verification or consideration of names will be done only with proper money receipts of M/s Yarkum Enterprises. The list will be sent to the SJETA director on 4 September and hence no claims will be entertained after 3 September, 2018,” he cautioned.
The SP said the police are taking this step out of concern for the students, and to ensure that no inadvertent error is made.
