NAHARLAGUN, Sep 6: Unknown miscreants attacked a couple on the outskirt of Pachin area here with sharp weapons in the wee hours of Wednesday. The wife, identified as Aisha Bano, 55, died during the attack while the husband, Ramzan Ali, is recovering at the TRIHMS.
Capital SP M Harsha Vardhan informed that the Naharlagun police station received the information about the incident. When a police team rushed to the spot, it found the couple there, with the woman presumably dead and the man grievously wounded.
They were rushed to the TRIHMS, where the woman was declared brought dead.
The deceased and her husband hail from Noibosa area in North Lakhimpur district of Assam.
The scene of the crime is a remote location which does not have a motorable road. It can be reached only on foot after walking over 2 kms and crossing a river.
Vardhan said the couple was living in an isolated bamboo house amid farmlands. They were working as farm labourers.
A case under Section 302/34 IPC has been registered at the Naharlagun police station, and investigation is underway.
The SP said the capital police are making their best effort to work out the case at the earliest. He said he visited the scene of the crime and issued directions for the investigation.
Naharlagun SDPO Make Bui informed that the legal formalities have been completed and the body of the deceased was handed over to her relatives on Thursday for the last rites.
“We have got several clues and are working on them, and hope that the case is solved soon,” Bui said.
