Daporijo Govt College win Teachers’ Trophy opener

ITANAGAR, Sep 8: Daporijo Government College (DGC) scored a facile 5-1 win over Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) Team A in the opening match of the second state level Teachers’ Trophy football tournament at the DNGC playground here on Saturday.
The slippery ground due to intermittent rains could not deter the spirit of the players of the DGC as the team took just five minutes to take the lead.
After Gakir Dulom put the team ahead early in five minutes, there was no looking back for team DGC.
Panye Rebi, Raja Leya and Vicky Rebi scored three goals in quick succession in the 11th, 13th and 15th minutes to put their team DGC in commanding position at halftime. Dulom scored his second and the team’s fifth goal in the 8th minute of the second half.
The consolation goal for the DNGC A team was scored in the 20th minute through a penalty kick by Tabom Kodak.
Earlier, DNGC Principal Dr NT Rikam, who kicked off the tournament, expressed gratitude to the Ajing United Club (AUC) for organizing the event as a tribute to the teachers for their tireless contributions in the education sector of the state.
Rikam suggested to the AUC to liaison with the appropriate authority and the department concerned for making the tournament a calendar event.
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha president Taring Teri also spoke in favour of organizing the tournament, stating that such events help channelize the youths in the right direction.
Arunachal Teachers’ Association president Kipa Kechak, AUC advisor Tanya Agu, and organizing chairman Arun Badung also spoke during the opening ceremony.
DID Little Masters’ Season 4’s second runner-up Tamman Gamnu also performed in the opening ceremony.
The final of the tournament will be played on 16 September at the same venue.
Organized by the AUC, 19 teams from various schools, colleges and university are participating in the tournament.
