Kharsang Super Cup football tournament begins

INJAN, Sep 8: The district level Kharsang Super Cup football tournament organized by the Kharsang Sports Committee was kicked off by Changlang North MLA Tesam Pongte at Injan village in Changlang district on Friday.
The aim of the tournament, which is sponsored by minister and local MLA Kamlung Mossang, is to wean the youths away from drugs abuse.
Pongte commended the organizers’ initiative to generate public awareness about the ill effects of drugs abuse and to channel the youths’ energy in a positive direction.
Speaking about the importance of sports, he exhorted the youths to make a promise to stay away from drugs and other intoxicants.
Miao ADC Tage Rumi said sports could play an important role in “spreading the message of drugs prevention.” He urged the youths to “stay away from using drugs for a vibrant society.”
Thirty teams from various parts of Changlang district are participating in tournament.
The organizers have kept a cash prize Rs 1 lakh for the winner and Rs 50,000 for the runner-up.
The final is scheduled to be played on 2 October.
Chingsa FC A won the opening match, beating Rangringkan FC 5-0.
