Ruksin CHC gets blood storage, maternity ward

RUKSIN, Sep 12: Community Health Centre (CHC) at Ruksin in East Siang – the only First Referral Unit (FRU) in the state, achieved another milestone in public healthcare system, when Health and Family Welfare Minister Alo Libang inaugurated the blood storage unit and maternity ward of the CHC here on Wednesday.
Libang said the state government is taking up a number of health projects to improve the rural healthcare system. He urged the officers and leaders of the area to maintain good coordination and help chalk out plan to maintain the hospital for smooth functioning.
District Medical Officer of East Siang Dr Mandip Perme informed the health minister how the department has been able to prevent Dengue and reduce malaria cases in the district with coordinated by the health officials, workers and public.
Ruksin CHC was first established as “Opium De-addiction Centre’ in 1981, and later, it was upgraded to Public Health Centre in 1987 and then to Community Health Centre. The hospital attained FRU status in 2005, informed the DMO.
The hospital bagged the ‘Kayakalp’ award for its excellent performance in routine immunization services.
The medical officer-in-charge of the FRU Dr Kadum Jonnom informed that more than 630 major surgeries have been successfully performed in the hospital during last three years.
He appealed to the minister for providing adequate power and water supply and biochemistry analysis unit in the hospital besides funding for construction of eight staff quarters and equal number of bachelors’ barrack in the hospital campus.
Local MLA Tatung Jamoh urged the minister to post ENT specialists and anaesthesiologist in the hospital at the earliest.
Director of Health Services Dr M Lego and East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak also spoke on the occasion.
The two units in the hospital were constructed with fund from the National Health Mission.
