ITANAGAR, Sep 15: GHSS Doimukh (Papum Pare) will represent the state at the national level Subroto Cup U-17 girls’ football tournament scheduled to begin in New Delhi on 25 October.
The school came from two goals down to defeat GHSS Seppa (East Kameng) 2-1 (4-3) via penalty shootout at the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) football ground in Chimpu on Saturday.
The match went to tie-breaker after both the teams were locked 2-2 in the regulation and extra time.
Earlier, Mechang Veo put GHSS Seppa ahead, scoring in the 17th minute. Devi Dada scored the second goal for the school in the 53rd minute to double the lead.
But the school failed to hold on to the lead as Boriya Babylon and Gyamar Hania of GHSS Doimukh equalized by scoring a goal each in the 57th and 65th minutes (2-2).
Secondary Education Director Gania Leij, Joint Director Marken Kadu, and Jully-based Art of Living Ashram’s social projects director Dr Rajesh Kumar attended the closing ceremony.
The boys’ section of the tournament was kicked off at the SLSA football ground on Saturday.
The inaugural match between East Kameng and Lower Siang ended in 1-1 draw.
In other matches, Kurung Kumey beat Anjaw 2-0, West Kameng beat Longding 1-0, Upper Subansiri beat West Siang 5-1, and Tawang edged past Kara Daadi 1-0 to earn full points.
The match played between Upper Siang and Papum Pare also ended in 1-1 draw.
East Siang was given a walkover against Kamle.
