CHANLANG, Sep 30: A newly-trained operative of the NSCN (IM), Jatkhom Kungkho, 31, of Phinthing village in Tirap district, was apprehended by a column of the JCO and civil police here on 29 September.
On Saturday, the column received credible input from reliable sources regarding the presence of a suspected NSCN (IM) operative in the general area of Changlang town, and an operation was launched under Naik Subedar Anand Singh, informed Changlang DSP N Ete on Sunday.
At around 4.30 pm, the column noticed the suspected operative extorting money from a shopkeeper near the SBI branch in Changlang town, and immediately cordoned off the area and apprehended Kungkho.
They recovered, among other things, an extortion collection diary, an extortion note, a mouth mask, a mobile phone, and extortion money from Kungkho’s possession, informed the DSP.
A case under Section 384 IPC has been registered at the Changlang police station, he added. (DIPRO)
