ITANAGAR, Oct 26: The combined annual training camp for cadets from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam was conducted here by the National Cadet Corps’ (NCC) 1 Arunachal Pradesh battalion from 13-22 October.
The camp was aimed at developing character, comradeship and discipline, and instilling leadership qualities in the cadets.
During the inauguration, camp commandant Col RK Sharma explained the aim of the NCC, and advised the cadets to learn about others’ cultures and imbibe national pride and the willingness to participate in social causes and nation-building.
The activities included physical training, drills, firing, indoor and outdoor classes, games, and motivational lectures by eminent speakers. Personnel of the 12 National Disaster Relief Force along with firefighters presented demonstrations and lectures.
The speakers during the camp included RGGP Director Dr AK Tripathi and the NCC’s 72 Assam Girls’ (I) Coy commanding officer Col Anup Avasthi. The two motivated the youths to participate in nation-building and join the armed forces.
All 429 cadets participated in the small-arm firing drill at the police range, and 72 achieved perfect scores. In the decider round, cadet Naina Thatibaruah of Tezpur University was declared the winner in the senior girls’ category, and cadet Shivam Kumar of NIT Yupia was the winner in the boys’ category.
The evenings featured cultural competitions, including group dances and songs on patriotic and folk themes.
The camp ended with a cultural extravaganza which was attended by, among others, Secondary Education Director Gania Leij, Youth Welfare Officer L Sokun Singh, and Higher & Technical Education Deputy Director Tripathi.
The cultural programme culminated with prize distribution by the secondary education director.
