ROING, Nov 22: Students of Jomin Tayeng Government Model Degree College (JTGMDC) here benefitted from an awareness programme on systematic voter’s education and electoral participation (SVEEP), organised by the Lower Dibang Valley district election office on Thursday.
Addressing the students, JTGMDC Principal Dr Monshi Tayeng spoke on the significance of universal adult suffrage, and advised the students to “build an ethical voting culture to augment the pillars of India’s parliamentary democracy.
ELC nodal officer JK Pattnaik urged the students to participate in the digital poster-making competition on the theme ‘Ethical voting or importance of voting’ being conducted by the chief electoral office, and reminded them that “the winning entries would be used for electoral awareness purposes.”
A debate competition on the topic ‘EVM is suitable for free and fair election in India’ was conducted. Rehna Begum secured the first position, while Deepok Lego and Mito Moyong secured the second and third positions, respectively.
A signature campaign on pledging to vote was also organised. Roing CO (Elections) James Mary Tayeng also attended the programme.
