NIAUSA, Nov 25: The inter-village volleyball tournament organized by the 19th Sikh Regiment under Operation Sadbhavana concluded here in Longding district on Saturday.
The four-day tournament was aimed at developing a better relation between the army and the local population.
Niausa B team beat Longphong B team in the final match.
The winners were awarded cash prize of Rs 8000 and a trophy, while the runner-up team was given Rs 3000 and a trophy.
Six short-listed teams out of 16 from Pongchau area and Niausa blocks participated in the knock-out matches.
During the course of the tournament, the army renovated the volleyball court, and also provided volleyball sets, including balls, poles and net, to the government secondary school here.
Interacting with the participants and the villagers, Col Manbendra Karmakar urged them to maintain the same zeal and take part in the upcoming volleyball tournament, likely to be held during January-February at Longding.
The village chief, GBs, teachers and local leaders of the village attended the closing function. (DIPRO)
