BASAR, Nov 27: The 5th Chief Minister’s Sub-Veteran and Veteran State Badminton Championship began at the multipurpose community hall here in West Siang district on Monday.
Shuttlers from 23 district associations affiliated to the Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) and those from the capital complex are taking part in the five-day event.
It has been informed that the total number of participants is 130.
The tournament is being held for men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles in the age categories of 35+, 40+, 45+ and 50+.
Tax & Excise Minister Jarkar Gamlin, who declared the championship open, highlighted the benefits of playing sports to stay fit and healthy.
Informing that there are job reservations for meritorious sportspersons in all the government departments, Gamlin advised the youths and school children to take up sports sincerely and the grab the opportunity by excelling in their chosen sports.
Local legislator Gojen Gadi also advised the youths to take up sports as a profession.
