ITANAGAR, Dec 9: Six local mountaineers scaled the unclimbed Mt Eko Dumbing, sitting at 13690 ft, in Upper Siang district.
Led by Everester Kishon Tekseng, the climbers reached the peak’s apex on 4 December at 4.20 pm after more than 13 hours of nonstop climbing from the base camp, informed KR Meetei, the adventure cell in-charge at the youth affairs directorate.
The Alpine style expedition was organized by the directorate under the mission ‘Exploration of Arunachal Mountains’. The expedition had been flagged off by Yingkiong ADC Tamik Talom on 26 November.
All the mountaineers were trained at Dirang (West Kameng)-based National Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Sports, under the sponsorship of the youth affairs department.
“The department will conduct more such expeditions in the future, engaging local trained mountaineers to explore the virgin mountains of the state,” Meetei said.
