Pay of RGU’s contractual, contingent staffs to be raised: VC
RONO HILLS, Dec 13: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha said that the pay of contractual and contingent staffs of the university would be raised.
Addressing the 28th foundation day of the RGU Employees’ Association (RGUEA) here on Thursday, Prof Kushwaha urged all the employees to discharge their duties and responsibilities with dedication and commitment.
“Productivity of each employee would help in leveraging the status and ranking of the university, which in turn would help the university in many ways,” the VC said.
The RGUEA dedicated the celebration to the contingent and contractual staffs of the university.
The VC mooted the idea of setting up “a welfare fund for labour welfare in the university,” and contributed a token amount of Rs 5000 from his salary to start the welfare fund.
Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APBOCWWB) Chairman Jalley Sonam also contributed Rs 50,000 towards the RGU labour welfare fund.
He informed about the board’s various schemes for registered workers. Later, he distributed blankets and mosquito nets among the senior workers of the university.
RGUEA president Sollung Sonam highlighted the issues confronted by the university’s labourers and contractual and contingent staffs.
Representatives of the contractual and contingent staffs also spoke.
RGUEA vice president Gomar Basar said the registration of workers of RGU with the APBOCWWB, as suggested by Sonam, “will be completed in due course of time.”
RGUEA general secretary Biro Taba also spoke. Among other things, he informed that the association was formed in 1990.
An awareness and testing programme on hepatitis was conducted on the occasion by Dr Akin Tana Tara and the staff of the university’s health centre.
