ROING, Jan 19: A training programme on adventure sports, organized by the Mishmi Hills Trekking Company (MHTC), was inaugurated by ADC Tapik Pertin here in Lower Dibang Valley district on Saturday.
Fifty boys and girls from Hunli-Desali block are attending the training, which is being sponsored under BADP-2018-19. They will be imparted knowledge and skills needed for adventure sports like white water rafting, mountaineering, wall climbing, rock climbing, trekking etc, informed MHTC’s proprietor Pronov Mega.
“Other obstacle courses include zip line, Burma bridge, cat walk and snake line,” Mega said.
The trainers include the first woman Everester from the Northeast Tine Mena, Everesters Takak Tamut, Muri Linggi and Khorsing Terang, wall/rock climber Rinima Meto, national level cyclist Ahondo Menjo, and white river rafter Iho Mitapo.
The best participants will be promoted for undergoing training at the National Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Sports in Dirang, and at the MMT in Manipur. A selected few will be promoted to undergo basic and advanced courses at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling, the organizers said.
The Everesters and other resource persons said the government should promote adventure sports as the youths of the state have a natural talent in such sports.
Among others, DPO Marto Dirchi and Hunli BDO M Rangai were present at the inaugural programme.
