SEPPA, Feb 21: The Nyokum Yullo celebration here in East Kameng district began on Tuesday with the start of the volleyball competition.
Fifteen teams are participating in the tournament. The first match was played between Bana and East Kameng Middle Zone Students’ Union, and it was won by Bana.
Organising committee chairman Mayan Kino and secretary Robin Hissang informed that the committee has prohibited clan-based representation in sports, cultural and other activities, in order to promote inclusiveness.
Various cultural events will be organized during the celebration, including ‘fusion ethnic fashion show’, ‘Vivo selfie challenge contest’, Nyishi ethnic dance, exhibition, folklore narration, etc.
“There will also be a tribute night programme for Nyokum’s pioneer-cum-former chairman/secretary and all members who contributed to the growth of the Nyokum Yullo festival here since 1972,” Hissang said.
