ECI bans exit polls

Poll campaigns end today at 5 pm

ITANAGAR, Apr 8: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has imposed ban on conducting and publishing exit polls from 11 April to 19 May.
“Between 7 am of 11 April and 6:30 pm of 19 May, conducting any exit poll and publishing or publicizing the results of exit polls by means or dissemination of the same in any other manner shall be prohibited,” the ECI stated in a notification.
Meanwhile, campaigning for the first phase of the elections will come to end at 5 pm of 9 April, after which no person will be allowed to convene, hold or attend, join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with an election, said CEO Kaling Tayeng in a separate release.
“There shall be no display to the public any election matter by means of cinematograph, television or other similar apparatus,” he said.
