ITANAGAR, Jun 4: Mechuka MLA Pasang Dorjee Sona was elected as the speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh legislative assembly on Tuesday.
After assuming charge of the 59-member house, Sona said he would be impartial during his tenure as the speaker and uphold the dignity and grace of the house.
He also requested the members to help him run the house with dignity.
Sona is a graduate from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University.
He is an alumnus of the Hindu College and RK Mission School, Aalo.
Born in 1972, Sona is the son of Pasang Wangchuk Sona, who had served as the deputy speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh legislative assembly from 1982 to 1985.
A keen photographer, Sona is credited with popularizing tourism in Mechuka.
Changlang North MLA Tesam Pongte was elected as the deputy speaker on the same day.
Son of Khodong Pongte, the 43-year-old deputy speaker is an alumnus of Rangfrah College in Changlang district.
