GSU holds soul-searching meet

LIKABALI, Jun 15: The Galo Students’ Union (GSU) on Saturday held a joint consultative meeting here with all the principals, headmasters of various schools in Lower Siang district to discuss the poor performance by students in the class 10 and 12 examinations conducted by the CBSE.
The main objective of the meeting was to identify the root causes of poor performance by the students in the examinations and find a concrete solution to it.
GSU president Mepe Ete proposed an educational tour in two phases to discuss the issues and factors leading to such poor performance with the parents and the students. The findings will be submitted to the state government for necessary remedial measures, he said.
GSU urged the teachers and parents to join hands together in creating an atmosphere in the schools that is conducive for teaching and learning.
GSU advisor Reken Ingo emphasized on the need of such round-table discussions together with the all stakeholders in order to improve the students’ performance.
“The parents are the right persons to make their wards aware about the importance of education,” he said highlighting the role of parents and guardians in their children’s education.
He appealed to the principals and headmasters to ensure that the teachers in their respective schools perform their duties sincerely.
DDSE Pakgi Koyu Lombi warned the teachers against dereliction of duties. She instructed all the principals and headmasters to initiate disciplinary action against irregular teachers and report to her about absenteeism by teachers for further action.
She, however, said despite being an infant district, Lower Siang has performed well as compared to others.
The meeting was attended by Principals of GHSS Likabali, Gensi, Telam, New Seren, Nari, Kangku, Liru, Lipu, Koyu under Lower Siang district who shared their views towards improving the school education.
