ITANAGAR, Jun 28: Informing that toxic substance has been detected in the samples of two batches of baby shampoo manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, the State Drugs Control & Licensing Authority (SDCLA) has directed all concerned to immediately withdraw the product bearing batch numbers BB58177 and BB58204 from the markets.
“It has been informed by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights that the presence of formaldehyde chemical was detected in the samples of the two batches of the shampoo during a laboratory test conducted by the government drug testing laboratory in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and the particular batches of the product were declared ‘not of standard quality’,” said Assistant Drugs Controller Gebomb Tayeng in a press statement.
Stating that formaldehyde is carcinogenic and can cause cancer, Tayeng said any firm, retailer or shopkeeper found stocking or selling the two identified batches of the product would be dealt with strictly as per the provisions under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and Rules, 1945.
