JANG, Aug 4: The 6th Dorjee Khandu memorial district level badminton tournament was conducted at the Jang Sports Club (JSC) here in Tawang district from 31 July to 4 August.
Altogether 120 players from Lungla, Tawang and the JSC participated in the tournament.
Bameng MLA Guruk Pordung, who attended the closing function on Sunday, said badminton is a sport loved by people of all ages. “One should be active in maintaining physical and mental health through regular participation in sports,” he said.
The tournament is organized every year to encourage young players and to provide them with a platform to show their talents, said Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi.
He advised the players to come forward and make careers out of sports.
“We are always here to help you. We want you to play in the state and the national levels. But you have to come forward,” he said.
JSC secretary Dr Rinchin Neema expressed happiness over the participation of a good number of female players, particularly from the Tawang Sports Club, and expressed hope for more participation from among youngsters in the coming tournaments.
Jang ADC Lobsang Wangchu Bapu lauded the club’s members for maintaining discipline throughout the tournament. (DIPRO)
