GUWAHATI, Aug 24: The Northeast Futsal League (NEFL) is all set to be kicked off at the NC Bordoloi indoor stadium here in Assam on Sunday.
The inaugural match will be played between the Assam Titans and the Nagaland Super 5.
It will be the India’s first ever mixed-gender futsal league, featuring six teams in total. The league will be played over a period of seven days from 25 August.
The other participating teams are the Meghalaya Thunders, the Apunba Manipur, the Arunachal Highlanders, and the Mizo Falcons.
Each team has been allotted two international players from Spain and Nigeria through a draw of lots.
“The first-of-its-kind tournament in Northeast India is being organised with the aim of providing a platform for the budding footballers of the region to showcase their talent and also to rub shoulders with players from other parts of the world,” the organizer said.
The NEFL is a brainchild of the Proclivity Sports and Recreation Pvt Ltd, owned by Ranajit Mahanta and Biswajit Mahanta.
