ITANAGAR, Sep 17: The Itafort urban primary health centre (UPHC) here on Tuesday added designated microscopy centre (DMC) services for tuberculosis (TB) patients.
Capital Complex DMO Dr Mandip Perme inaugurated the DMC services in the presence of Papum Pare District TB Officer Dr PD Thongchi and Itafort UPHC MO (in-charge) Dr Kabak Tamar.
The facility will provide sputum diagnostic test for all presumptive TB cases free of cost. It will also facilitate cartridge-based nucleic acid amplification test for detecting multi-drug resistant TB cases.
Dr Thongchi informed that the central government has undertaken the task of eliminating TB by 2025, and in this regard has introduced patient welfare programmes such as incentive for treatment compliance and nutrition supplementation.
Dr Tamar urged the UPHC’s staff, the public and field functionaries like ASHAs, anganwadi workers and SHGs to create awareness on TB diagnosis and treatment “which will be provided free of cost at the nearest designated microscopy centre.”
He further informed that “TB awareness and screening” will be done during the Ayushman Bharat Pakhwada and the Urban Health Nutrition Day being jointly conducted by the health and the WCD departments.
