DOIMUKH, Oct 8: Three men have been arrested for vandalizing three idols at a Durga Puja pandal here on Sunday.
According to the Papum Pare SP, the police station here received a complaint in the morning of 6 October that three idols had been vandalized at around midnight at one of the pandals.
“An FIR (u/s 295/448/427/34 IPC) was registered, statements were taken, and investigation initiated,” the SP said, adding that the police later arrested the three men, all between the ages of 25 and 30 years.
The SP said the trio was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and had been looking for someone they had a personal enmity with in the market area.
“They entered the pandal and got into an altercation with the guard and vandalized the idols. They escaped in a Tata Tiago car. The police were able to identify the car, and were able to apprehend the trio. The police have found no evidence to indicate a communal issue in the crime,” the SP said.
