DAPORIJO, Nov 12: The road safety awareness programme of the All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) reached Upper Subansiri district, with the All Upper Subansiri Tata Sumo Union organizing an ‘awareness-cum-interaction programme on road traffic safety’ here on Monday.
The programme was aimed at making people, especially drivers and federation members, aware of the traffic rules and safety, and their responsibilities while on road.
Addressing the gathering, AAPPTF president Dobing Sonam highlighted the important amendments made to the Motor Vehicles Act, and said “the government has amended the act not to harass the public with fines but to contain road accidents.”
He advised drivers to follow the traffic rules and safety measures, avoid reckless and drunken driving, and keep their documents intact.
Sonam requested the administration to establish counters for Tata Sumo taxis in one particular area. He also urged the district transport office to “initiate a licence drive, where the drivers can apply for and renew their licences.”
CO Dubom Apang and SP Taru Gusar urged drivers and vehicle owners to support the administration and the police in bringing down traffic congestion in the district headquarters.
The programme’s organising chairman Milli Tayo, secretary Pania Sikom and overall in-charge Babu Mosu also spoke.
