Trg in poultry production imparted

WANU, Nov 23: Thirty-five farmers participated in a training programme on ‘Backyard poultry production for livelihood improvement of rural youths’, organised here by the Longding KVK on Saturday.
During the programme, animal science specialist Dr Tilling Tayo spoke on the potential of local backyard poultry production to help improve the livelihood of the rural youths.
“Poultry are very susceptible to change in climate, from summer to winter, and vice versa. Therefore, utmost care must take during the transit period of changing seasons,” Dr Tayo said, and stressed on carrying out mass deworming using stressol solution and anticoccidiosis drug “as preventive doses to mitigate the coccidiosis problems.”
He advised the farmers to not let their poultry loose to roam outside during rainy days, in order to “prevent direct exposure to extreme weather conditions of cold stress.”
He also distributed dewormers, antistress and anticoccidial drugs for poultry.
Husse Rusa GB Chonii Ranga urged the KVK to provide treatment for “some pigs (that) are suffering from disease,” and requested it to conduct “one more such programme to mitigate the morbidity and mortality of pigs.”
Tingchak Wangjan of the interim panchayat committee of Wanu encouraged the farmers to always attend such training programmes “to gain technical know-how in livestock and poultry production.”
Wanu chief Lohwang Wangham also spoke.
