AALO, Dec 13: The West Siang district unit of the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has deeply mourned the demise of Minoti Riba, renowned social worker and wife of former chief minister Tomo Riba.
In a condolence message, the unit’s president, Marbom Riba Bagra, recalled that late Riba was the first woman officer of the state cooperative society, and was instrumental in the cooperative movement in Aalo.
“The Aalo Cooperative Society reached its zenith in her days. She was a role model who always motivated women and young girls to join government services at par with male counterparts to serve the womenfolk in various capacities,” Bagra said.
“An Assamese by birth, she (Riba) was closely interwoven in the Galo culture and literature, and her contribution towards the uplift of Galo women stands exemplary to be emulated,” she said. “With her passing away, a vibrant women’s era has ended.” (DIPRO)
