YUPIA, Feb 17: Census functionaries of Papum Pare and the capital complex are participating in a two-day training for the first phase of the 2021 census, comprising house-listing, housing census and updating of the National Population Register (NPR), which got underway here on Monday.
Census Operations Director for Meghalaya and Arunachal, Dr Joram Beda, who visited the first day’s training session, advised the administrative officers who are designated as district and charge census officers to “conduct the census process meticulously in their jurisdictions and ensure that data collected by the enumerators are accurate and up-to-date.”
Papum Pare DC Pige Ligu also requested the census officers to discharge their duties sincerely during the census period.
Shillong DCO’s Deputy Registrar General, Bharati Chanda, imparted training on topics like the processes of census and NPR, the roles and responsibilities of census functionaries, the HLO mobile app, gender sensitization, etc.
Administrative officers of Papum Pare and the capital complex, along with technical assistants also attended the first day’s programme.
A similar programme got underway in East Siang HQ Pasighat also on Monday.
DC Kinny Singh informed the participants that for the current census operation, “the data to be collected is being codified to make reading and collation easier.”
She said the data can be collected by the enumerators on their phones and registered with the census authorities via the HLO app.
“The monitoring of the entire field operation would be done through the portal called census monitoring and management system,” Singh said.
