TEZU/NAHARLAGUN, May 8: In all, 20 traders from various places throughout the state have been booked on Friday by the department of legal metrology & consumer affairs for violation of various provisions of Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011.
The department has been carrying out surprise inspection throughout the state and has booked erring traders in a bid to combat price rise during the current lockdown in the state.
In Tezu, a team comprising of zonal deputy controller Minte Siga, assistant controller C.S. Singpho and police personnel booked 3 traders of Tezu market for selling products at exorbitant price and manipulating MRP. The team also warned the traders of the area of serious action if anybody was found violating the rules.
In Itanagar Capital Region, a team of Papum Pare district legal metrology department led by Papum Pare district assistant controller Amrit Taba conducted surprise inspections at Prem Nagar, Model Village at Naharlagun and Karsingsa and booked 17 traders for price overcharging of cold drinks.
The Papum Pare district assistant controller expressed concern over the growing trend of overcharging on various consumer products especially, during current lockdown period and warned of stern action against any trader found violating the provisions of LM Act and Rules.
Later, acting on the directions of the Itanagar Capital Region deputy commissioner, the team also checked trading licences and suggested the traders to get their trading licenses renewed as soon as the lock down is lifted.
