Meeting on cluster farming held

SAGALEE, Jun 14: Local MLA Nabam Tuki convened a meeting at the ADC mini-secretariat here in Papum Pare district last Friday to discuss the government’s initiative to start 2000 nutritional kitchen gardens and a cluster farm in every assembly constituency.
As it was felt that the district empowered committee alone would not be able to coordinate with various government departments and stakeholders at the grassroots level, a subdivision-level empowered committee, headed by ADC Punyo Uya, was constituted with the approval of the MLA to aid the district empowered committee.
Tuki handed over 10 heavy-duty sprayers and mist blowers, donated by Techi Rotu, to the ADC office.
Later, a team comprising the ADC, Sagalee BDO Kapa Rai, Mengio BDO Tana Bapu, Silsango CO Rubu Tabiyo, and other officials inspected and selected a government plot for starting a cluster farm.
The CO advocated “keeping scope for converting the cluster farm into a demonstration centre for giving practical training to farmers from various places of the district in the near future.” The CO further suggested that the cluster farm should gradually be turned into “an integrated system of farming in subsequent phases of the programme, as the land already has three fish ponds and a fair-weather approach road.”
Setting up nutritional kitchen gardens is already an ongoing programme under the Sagalee ArSLRM branch; therefore, the ArSLRM team was directed to coordinate with the BDOs to select beneficiaries, so that training, land preparation, etc, may be taken up quickly. (DIPRO)
