NSCN (IM) and NSCN (K) operatives surrender

LONGDING, 27 Jan: A mass surrender of NSCN (IM) and NSCN (K) operatives took place before a joint team of the police and the Assam Rifles here on Wednesday.

“The surrender came after a month-long concerted efforts, relentless pursuit and humane approach by the police and the Assam Rifles to convince the insurgents to join the mainstream,” the Longding DSP informed in a release.

Those who surrendered include the NSCN (IM)’s self-styled (SS) private Wangchen Wangsa (45), who had joined the outfit in 2008, the NSCN (IM)’s SS lance corporal Aaom Wangsu (24), who had joined in 2013, the NSCN (K)’s SS private Chapha Panda (30), the NSCN (K)’s SS private Jewang Wangsa (47), who had joined in 1994, and the NSCN (K)’s SS lance corporal Chaibo Panda (33), who had joined in 2008.

The surrendered operatives had worked actively for the outfits and had been engaged in extortion and collection of taxes.

The surrendered operatives appealed to the cadres who are still in the NSCN (IM), the KYA, and other such outfits to give up violence and surrender before the police and the administration, the DSP said.
