Webinar on flagship prog in agriculture sector held

ITANAGAR, 24 Feb: The Itanagar Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB) under the information & broadcasting ministry organized a webinar to create awareness among the officials of the FOBs in the state on the central government’s flagship programmes in the agriculture sector.

Participating in the webinar, Itanagar ROB Director Dr HR Keshavamurthy said that the central government is implementing a number of schemes in the agriculture sector to enhance the income of the farmers to almost double.

He mentioned schemes like oil health card, neem coated urea, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana, etc.

Dr Keshavamurthy urged the state government and the field staffers of the FOBs to create awareness about the three farmers’ laws passed recently by the central government to remove their misconceptions about the laws.

Joint Agriculture Director Karbom Riram presented a brief on the agricultural flagship schemes that are being implemented in Arunachal.

“Apart from the centrally-sponsored schemes, there are also state-sponsored schemes, like the Chief Minister Agri Mechanization Programme and the Cash Crop Development Programme,” Riram informed.

“Besides the agriculture department, departments like the WRD, the RD and horticulture are involved in the implementation of the schemes, based on their nature and type,” he added.

Responding to a question from a participant, Riram informed that the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Bima Yojana has not been implemented yet in Arunachal due to absence of an insurance company.

He said there are various agro-climatic zones in Arunachal to produce different types of crops, “but the state government is not able to support as much as needed for the agriculture department.”

Officials from the FOBs in Aalo, Bomdila, Pasighat, Tezu and Tawang and ROB Itanagar participated in the webinar.
