ITANAGAR, 24 Feb: Ten students from Changlang’s Bordumsa area who were promised scholarships for higher education under the MLALAD fund in August 2021 are still awaiting the scholarships.
This came to this daily’s knowledge when one of the students tweeted, stating that the Changlang administration had promised them scholarships under the MLALAD fund but, “even after writing for five months, they have not been received yet.”
When contacted, Changlang DC Dr Devansh Yadav informed that, “due to the problem that occurred in the billing process while submitting the bills to the treasury office, it was returned back and now it has been modified with the other bills.”
He cited the transfer of the Bordumsa ADC as one of the reasons for the delay in the billing process, “as it was handled by the new ADC.”
“By this coming Monday or Tuesday, the bills will be cleared,” the DC said.
He informed that there were complaints from the All Changlang District Students’ Union (ACDSU), seeking revocation of the selection of two Chakma students out of the 10 students, and the district administration had to hold it for a while and later on carried it forward to look for the remaining candidates.
When asked about the Chakma students, the DC said that a decision will be made once the bill is cleared by the treasury.
The DC further informed that he has not received any letter so far from the students. However, he said that he received two phone calls along with complaint letters to him through WhatsApp.
The notification for the scholarships had been issued on 2 August, 2021 and the merit list was out on 20 August, 2021.
On 23 August, 2021, the ACDSU wrote to the DC to scrap the scholarships of the two Chakma students, and accordingly, on 25 August, the DC issued an order for abeyance of the scholarship, in view of public complaints.
