ZIRO, 11 Mar: Several gaon burahs and gaon buris, along with representatives of the Apatani Women Association of Ziro and NGO Ngunu Ziro, and students of St Clarets College participated in a workshop on ‘Medicinal plants of Ziro valley’ here in Lower Subansiri district recently.
The workshop, which was organised by artist and writer Millo Ankha in collaboration with the Hapoli forest division, was aimed at raising awareness about the presence of medicinal plants and linking the traditional knowledge about the plants to the scientific knowledge.
Speaking on the occasion, Hapoli DFO Abhinav Kumar said that “one of the effective ways to create livelihood is sustainable extraction of NTFP (non-timber forest products), which includes various medicinal plants. If done properly, they can bring in livelihood options to people.”
He further said that commercialisation of medicinal plants through collaboration with Ayurvedic product manufacturers would be a good alternative to conserve natural forest while earning an income.
