ITANAGAR, 11 May: Five athletes representing Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) who have brought laurel for the University were given warm reception by the University fraternity led by its vice-chancellor prof. Saket Kushwaha during a felicitation programme.
University contingent bagged medals in the recently-concluded 2nd edition of the Khelo India University Games held at Jain University, Bengaluru from 23 April-3 May, 2022. Yame Gyadi clinched the Gold medal under 55 kg category in individual Kumite while Sanjay Gamnu and Yaki Dignium bagged Bronze medals. The women’s Kumite team, comprising Karsang Yanga, Yaki Dignium and Reyum Haji won the bronze medal. Dr. Tadang Minu from RGU and Prakash Limbu from Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy were the team manager and team coach respectively. Around 4000 athletes from over 158 universities competed in the Games, which featured some of the country’s best athletes.
Prof. Kushwaha while congratulating the team reaffirmed RGU’s dedication to uplift games and sports through various means. On the sideline of the event, the athletes shared their experiences from the Bengaluru Games and expressed their zeal to do better. University’s pro-vice chancellor prof. Amitava Mitra, registrar Dr. N. T. Rikam, finance officer prof. Otem Padung, joint registrar Dr. David Pertin and head of the department of physical education Dr. Sambhu Prasad in their addresses lauded the athletes for making the University proud and opined that RGU’s students are in the right orientation and have the dedication towards achieving their targets and boasted that the university has high potentiality in the field of games and sports.
Among others, Dean of social sciences prof. SK Chaudhuri, Dean of commerce and management and law prof. RC Parida, joint registrar (finance) Kurian Thomas, assistant professor in physical education Dr. Anil Mili and other officials of RGU were present during the occasion.
