The series of kidnappings of ordinary citizens in Longding district by insurgent groups is a matter of serious concern. In the last few months, there has been a sudden spurt in the number of incidents of kidnapping in the TCL region, in particular in Longding district. This has forced the people of the area to stand up and protest. The Wancho Council has announced that it is going to conduct a peaceful rally on 30 May to protest a series of abductions perpetrated by the NSCN (K-YA). The Tirap, Changlang and Longding People’s Forum has announced to extend support to the council.
In fact, every Arunachali should come forward and extend support to the people of Tirap, Changlang and Longding. Protests should be held across the state against the repeated acts of kidnapping by Naga insurgents in the TCL region. At a time when the government of India is trying to bring a solution to the long-pending vexed Naga issue, the insurgent groups are terrorising the people of TCL. This is completely unacceptable to the people of Arunachal Pradesh. The state government also should look into the issue. It is unfortunate that the citizens of TCL are today feeling vulnerable in their own homes. The lack of security and repeated kidnapping of citizens expose the poor security preparedness of the government of Arunachal Pradesh. The government should take strong measures to give a sense of security to the citizens of the TCL region.
