NGOPOK, 2 Jul: The panchayat members of Ngopok village in East Siang district, in collaboration with Pasighat-based NGO Women Against Social Evils (WASE), organised an awareness programme on drug abuse and illicit trafficking at the government upper primary school here on Saturday.
Addressing the students and parents, WASE president Yamik Dulom Darang spoke about the types of drugs and their ill effects on the society, while WASE member Tigul Yirang said that the increasing number of drug users in Arunachal, especially among the youths, poses a grave danger to the society, the state, and the country.
Ngopok GB Makbul Lego appealed to the youths to avoid drugs and focus on studies and games and sports.
Advocate Christopher Perme described the various sections and laws relating to drug peddling and abuse. He also explained the NDPS Act.
Dr Oshon Borang dwelt on the ways to overcome drug abuse, and spoke about rehabilitation and treatment of drug addicts.
