PAPU NALLAH, 10 Oct: Oju Welfare Association (OWA), in collaboration with The Birds and Bees Talk (TBBT), observed the World Mental Health Day at the OWA premises here on Monday.
The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day was ‘Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority’.
The day is observed on 10 October every year with the objective of raising awareness on mental health and mobilising efforts to support those experiencing mental health issues.
TBBT state manager Ashim Kawash, who inaugurated the programme, briefed about the importance of observing the day.
Psychologist Habung Antung educated the participants about depression and its types, how to overcome depression, and the available support mechanisms.
Psychologist Yuma Narah spoke about “mental health and its determinants, triggers and signs, promotion and prevention, mental health support group therapy, and peer groups and its principles.”
Tirap DIPRO adds: The Khonsa battalion of the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Tirap district administration and the GHSS Khonsa, organised an awareness programme on mental health issues to mark the day.
Psychologist and counsellor from the general hospital in Khonsa, Rowang Aboh, delivered a lecture on various pressing issues related to the youths in the region.
Rowang spoke on issues including drug abuse and prevention, depression and anxiety disorders and preventive measures, and strategies to avoid smartphone addiction.
DSP Togum Gongo spoke on the harmful effects of drug abuse and how it affects the lives and careers of the young generation.
Students, teachers, parents, student leaders, representatives of the Nocte Mother’s Federation, and senior doctors from the general hospital attended the programme.
